Owning your first horse can be an exciting yet daunting undertaking if you
have not had much experience around  them.  They are big and powerful
animals who are smart enough to take advantage if they realize that they
can.

Horses require some basic needs and the humans caring for and working
with them need to understand how to handle horses in a safe and proper
manner.

We offer horsemanship lessons that focus on the care, maintenance and
health of your horse as well as the various equipment and tack you will
need and be working with.

You will learn about Equine Behavior.  When you understand how horses
think and behave you will be able to work with them safely.

You will get hands on experience either with your own horse if it is at our
ranch or one of our ranch horses.  In our program for new horse owners
you will learn:

  • How to safely handle your horse. In their stall, on a lead line, turning
out, and working in the round pen, tying at the hitching post or tack
    bar.

  • How to groom and maintain your horse and his/her appearance.
About different grooming products and how to use them.

  • How to properly tack up your horse with a variety of tack.

  • How to bathe your horse and care for the special needs of geldings
    and mares.

  • You will learn about nutrition and supplementing your horse.  What to
feed at different times of the year.

  • How to maintain your tack and equipment.

  • Recommended equipment list and instructions on how to use each
    tool.

  • We will give you a recommended reading/research list of resources
that will be a valuable tool to get you started in understanding equine
    behavior, care and training.

Our Horsemanship sessions are offered on a private/per family basis.   run
approximately one hour each. Course fee is $35 per session
